Changes in terms and conditions of British Airways passenger transportation due to coronavirus:
at present some countries have restricted non-essential trips: the current restrictions, other information and advisories on entering foreign countries for US citizens;

please note that entering many countries requires filling in the contact form (sometimes it is also necessary to get a QR code), providing the results of the preliminary passed  negative antigen (done not later than 48 hours before departure) or PCR test (no more than 72) for coronavirus and/or self-isolation (quarantine) with the duration from 5 (under condition of passing the repeated tests) and up to 14 days upon arrival in the destination country; you may also encounter complete restriction on entry for foreign nationals or the need to provide proof of vaccination/revaccination;

wearing a protective mask covering both your nose and mouth is mandatory for all passengers over the age of 11 (on the flights to the US over 2 years) at all stages of the flight: when boarding / disembarking and during the flight. Usually, surgical or masks with increased protective properties without valve are allowed, one mask for about 3-4 hours of flight.

Infants (children under 2 years) can travel on the lap of an accompanying adult for 10% of the cost of an adult air ticket, and for children from 2 to 11 years the cost of the flight is 75% of the normal fare.

1 cabin bag (max. 23 kg and up to 56x45x25 cm)
+ 1 handbag/laptop bag (with a maximum weight up to 23 kg and up to 45x36x20 cm in size)

Hand luggage on all other flights:
1 cabin bag (max. 23 kg and up to 56x45x25 cm)
+ 1 handbag/laptop bag (max. 23 kg and up to 40x30x15 cm)

! A passenger should be able to lift his hand luggage into the overhead locker by himself.

! All goods purchased at Duty Free or airport stores count as hand luggage.

For a small child (infants up to 2 years old) traveling on the lap of an accompanying person you can take one piece of hand baggage with a maximum weight of 23 kg and maximum dimensions of 56 x 45 x 25 cm with everything you need during the flight. On long-haul flights, some of the cabin seats are equipped with carrycot and child seat mountings (the number of these is limited), seats and carrycots are available free of charge. You can bring your own car seat or AmSafe restraint into the cabin.

Passengers with disabilities and special requirements, those needing assistance of the airline staff should contact the airline at the time of booking or not later than 48 hrs before departure.
Passengers with restricted mobility may carry free of charge an unlimited number of wheelchairs, mobility aids and associated equipment, such as walking frames, ramps, shower seats, bed supports, hoists and spare wheelchair wheels (for your personal use and each piece is within the allowed dimensions). Collapsible manual wheelchairs can be used until the moment of boarding the plane. Carriage of powered wheelchairs and other electric mobility aids (or mobility aids weighing over 250 kg) requires prior notification and consent of the airline.more info

British Airways excess baggage charges:

All bags heavier than 32 kg will have to be shipped as freight or cargo.

Maximum 10 pieces of checked baggage per passenger additionally to free checked baggage allowance.

!   Special baggage (more than 90x75x43 cm, more than 32 kg, fragile items etc.):  you must notify British Airways not later than 24 hours before the scheduled time of departure, British Airways customer service.

British Airways carriage of pets:

Only recognized assistance dogs can travel in the aircraft cabin (free of charge).

All other pets, including emotional support animals, will need to travel in the hold as cargo with IAG World Cargo to the UK or PetAir UK from the UK.more info  

British Airways carriage of special baggage: sports equipment, firearms and ammunition:

Bikes, golf clubs and umbrellas, surfboards, sporting rackets and sticks, diving, ski and snowboarding equipment is carried as part of free checked baggage allowance.

For time being you can take items of up to 190x75x65 cm without additional charge.  Larger items have to be shipped as cargo.

Items over 23 kg may incur an overweight baggage charge.

If you carry firearms, guns and ammunition you must notify customer support at least 72 hrs. before your flight, each case charged £125 + local service fees at check-in.

British Airways carriage of musical instruments:

Musical instruments are included in the baggage allowance.

For transportation in the cabin as hand luggage (instead of or as part of, but not in addition to it), British Airways will accept instruments up to 80x45x25 cm (if the airline staff will be able to find place for them in the cabin (?).

British Airways will also try to accommodate in the cabin instruments of up to 140x50x40 cm or, depending on availability, you may be able to purchase an extra seat: in either case you'll need to contact customer support and not later than 24 hrs before scheduled departure.

Large musical instruments with dimensions of up to 190x75x65 cm can be carried in the hold after prior notification of the airline at least 24 hours before departure.
If your instrument weights more than 23 kg you might need to pay an overweight baggage charge. The maximum weight for musical instruments is 45 kg.more info
