Changes in terms and conditions of American Airlines passenger transportation due to coronavirus:
at present some countries have restricted non-essential trips: the current restrictions, other information and advisories on entering foreign countries for US citizens;

please note that entering many countries requires filling in the contact form (sometimes it is also necessary to get a QR code), providing the results of the preliminary passed (mainly not more than 72 hours before departure) negative PCR test (PCR test) for coronavirus and/or self-isolation (quarantine) with the duration from 5 (under condition of passing the repeated tests) and up to 14 days upon arrival in the destination country;

wearing a medical protective mask covering both your nose and mouth is mandatory for all passengers over 2 years of age during all phases of the flight: during boarding/disembarking and during the flight. Two-layer cloth masks, surgical or masks with increased protective properties without valve will be acceptable at the rate of one mask per approximately 4 hours of flight (unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer); masks with valves, scarves, etc. are not allowed. Face shields may only be used in combination with an approved face mask.

American Airlines hand luggage:

1 piece of hand baggage with maximum dimensions of 56x36x23 cm (22x14x9 inches)

+ one personal item such as a purse, briefcase, or small backpack that fits under the seat in the front and does not exceed 45x35x20 cm (18x14x8 inches).


Children under 2 years of age may travel on the lap of an adult accompanying person or in an adjacent seat, if necessary in an approved child car seat; in this case the fare is the same as for an adult passenger. You can bring baby food for the flight duration.
Baby strollers and infant car seats may be carried free of charge as hand luggage (if within permitted dimensions, under the seat/in the baggage compartment) or as check-in baggage and may continue to be used up to the time of boarding. Each passenger with an airline ticket may bring both a stroller and a child car seat. Strollers weighing more than 20 pounds / 9 kilograms must be checked in. If you are carrying both a stroller and a car seat, only 1 item may be checked in at the gate free of charge. Play pens, wagons, cribs, etc. are considered regular pieces of baggage and must be checked-in for an additional fee if free baggage allowance is exceeded.

Persons with disabilities and passengers with reduced mobility who require assistance from airline staff should contact the airline when booking their flight or preferably at least 48 hours before departure (by telephone or online).
Crutches, walkers, canes, collapsible wheelchairs, and other devices for passengers with reduced mobility are usually carried in the cabin, but if this is not possible, they can be used in any case until boarding.
For information on requirements for wheelchairs and other mobility aids, please visit the American Airlines website or contact the airline's customer service. The size of the wheelchair storage compartment door opening is 63x101 cm (25x40 in) or sometimes even 25x38 inches. 1 piece of checked baggage may not exceed the size of 158 cm in the sum of three dimensions.

No item of checked baggage may weigh more than 32 kg. All baggage items exceeding 32 kg must be packed in separate bags.

American Airlines excess baggage charges:

Standard check baggage can weigh up to 23 kg or 50 lbs (Business 32 kg / 70 lbs), as heavy considered heavy bags weighing 23-32 kg or from 32 to 45 kg, bulky baggage more than 158 cm (62 in) up to 320 cm (126 in)

It is possible to check 10 pieces of luggage on domestic, transatlantic and transpacific flights and up to 5 bags on flights to Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, Central and South America and Brazil.

For bags weighing more than 23 kg and up to 32 kg you'll have to pay $100 (or 150 AUD/NZD from Australia and New Zealand).
Overweight from 32 kg to 45 kg costs $200 ($450 on flights to or from India, China, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong). In addition, there are seasonal and year-round restrictions on the weight and number of pieces of baggage on certain destinations,
Baggage pieces weighing over 32 kg will not be accepted for carriage on flights between Europe and the US, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Central and South America, as well as to/from Australia and New Zealand.

A fee of $200 is charged for transportation of bulky baggage ($150 on flights between Brazil and the USA, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America, South America (excluding Brazil) and the USA, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America, and between Europe, Israel, Morocco and U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Central and South America (including Brazil).

American Airlines carriage of pets:

! Brachycephalic breeds of dogs and cats (including mixed breeds) are not accepted for carriage as checked baggage.

At the moment, due to frequent flight changes, pets are not transported as check-in baggage!

Professionally trained service dogs are carried in the cabin free of charge, provided they meet certain requirements.

Emotional support and comfort animals, service dogs in training travel under normal conditions for an appropriate additional fee.

American Airlines accepts animals on most its flights with duration of less than 11 hours and 30 minutes, and on flights departing or landing at the following locations: Throughout the 48 contiguous U.S. states, U.S. and Canada, Alaska, Central America, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Santa Cruz, St. Thomas.

Restrictions exist on bringing animals into certain countries: Australia, Caribbean, US mainland, Hawaii, Mexico, South America; on transatlantic and transpacific flights, pets may not be transported as hand luggage.

The dimensions of the non-collapsible kennel should not exceed the size of the space under the seat, the soft-sided carrier may be slightly larger. Please contact the reservation department to check the maximum size of available space. Transporting pets as hand baggage in First and Business Class is not permitted on Boeing, 757-L, 757-EW, 767, 777-200, 777-300, 787-8, 787-9 and Airbus A330-200, A330-300. When flying in first or business class on A321T aircraft, the weight of the container with the pet may not exceed 9 kg (20 lbs).

Animals cannot be transported as check-in baggage on Airbus, A321, A321neo, A321S, A321H, A320, A319.

The dimensions of acceptable kennels vary from 55.9 cm (22 inches) to 160 cm (63 inches) and depend on the type of aircraft.

Within and between the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean Islands:
pets in the cabin: a fee of $125 is charged per pet carrier as carry-on baggage;
pets in the baggage compartment: fee for transporting a pet as checked baggage: currently not applicable.more info  

American Airlines carriage of special baggage: sports equipment, firearms and ammunition:

A non-standard baggage fee of $150 is always charged when carrying hang gliders, scuba diving equipment with tanks, windsurfing equipment*, deer antlers max. 32 kg (70 lbs) and 320cm (126 inches).
* for every 2 pieces.

Sports equipment weighing up to 23 kg (50 lbs) and with a maximum size of 158 cm (62 inches) paid as 1st or 2nd baggage item depending on the flight's destination (or according to excess baggage rates): bicycles, archery equipment, golf equipment, gymnastic equipment (max. 320 cm or 126 inches), camping, fishing (rod case with 2 rods up to 320 cm or 126 inches), hockey/cricket/lacrosse, hunting, skiing (water, cross-country, alpine skis) / snowboards (max. 126" + bag with boots / bindings, etc.), boogie / skim / speedboards, bowling balls, paddles, scuba diving gear without tanks, skateboards, tennis rackets, tents and sleeping bags.

On flights within the U.S., passengers over 18 years of age may carry firearms / airguns and ammunition as checked baggage. Passengers are required to notify the airline representative that they are transporting firearms and ammunition. The number of weapons carried in one case is not limited, but if the allowed weight / size is exceeded, fees for overweight or oversized baggage will be charged. On flights from London (with connection in London) there is an additional $80 processing fee.more info  

American Airlines carriage of musical instruments:

Musical instruments are carried free of charge, as long as they do not exceed the free baggage allowance, instead of a standard piece of carry-on or checked baggage.

The standard excess baggage fees apply to musical instruments that exceed free baggage allowance. The maximum size of an instrument is 150 inches (381 cm) and its weight is 165 pounds (75 kg).

When an instrument is carried in the passenger seat, it may not weigh more than 75 kg, the maximum allowed size depends on the type of aircraft.
