Changes in terms and conditions of TAP Air Portugal passenger transportation due to coronavirus:
at present some countries have restricted non-essential trips: the current restrictions, other information and advisories on entering foreign countries for US citizens;

please note that entering many countries requires filling in the contact form (sometimes it is also necessary to get a QR code), providing the results of the preliminary passed  negative antigen (done not later than 48 hours before departure) or PCR test (no more than 72) for coronavirus and/or self-isolation (quarantine) with the duration from 5 (under condition of passing the repeated tests) and up to 14 days upon arrival in the destination country; you may also encounter complete restriction on entry for foreign nationals or the need to provide proof of vaccination/revaccination;

wearing a protective mask covering both your nose and mouth is still mandatory for all passengers over 6 years of age at all stages of the flight: when boarding / disembarking and during the flight. The type of masks is not specified by the airline, but surgical and/or masks with increased protective properties without valve are usually allowed, you'll need one mask per 3-4 hours of flight, unless the manufacturer has specified otherwise.

Passengers with symptoms of colds detected at the airport by health authorities may be denied boarding the flight.

If your cabin bag exceeds the allowed weight and/or size, an extra fee of 70 € on domestic, EU and Morocco flights or 85 € / 106 $ / 134 CAD on intercontinental flights will be required.

Passengers with disabilities and special requirements, those needing assistance of the airline staff should contact the airline at the time of booking or not later than 48 hrs. before departure.
Passengers with restricted mobility may carry mobility aids in the cabin free of charge. Each passenger is allowed to transport up to two wheelchairs in the hold free of charge. Electric wheelchairs cannot used after check-in, if needed, passengers are provided with manual wheelchairs. The transportation of wheelchairs or other motorized/battery-powered mobility aids must be approved by the airline in advance.more info  

TAP Air Portugal Checked Baggage:

A piece of hold baggage with the sum of three dimensions not larger than 158 cm * for flights between mainland Portugal and the islands 2x23 kg

^ tickets issued before July 28, 2021 retain the 3 free baggage allowances previously included

^^ tickets issued before September 15, 2021 still allow 3 pieces of free baggage

For an infant (a child under 2 years) a booster seat, a baby cot, a fully collapsible stroller / buggy will be transported free of charge, you can also take one piece of baggage weighing up to 10 kg (! except TAP Discount fare with no checked baggage). more info  

TAP Air Portugal excess baggage charges:

Standard piece of checked-in baggage 23 kg, heavy 24-32 kg, oversized more than 158 cm.

All items heavier than 32 kg will be transported only as cargo.

! The table above shows only the surcharges for exceeding weight/size allowance stated on your ticket; in case of exceeding weight/size of an extra baggage item, you will have to pay almost twice as much.

TAP Air Portugal carriage of pets:

Pets (birds) carried in the aircraft cabin on TAP Air Portugal flights. The size of the container must not exceed 98 cm in the sum of three dimensions: 45х30х23 cm, the weight of the container (with pet/pets) must not exceed 8 kg.

Pets (birds) carried in the baggage compartment, the weight of the container (with pet/pets) must not exceed 45 kg (on some routes 32 kg: USA, Hungary, France, Netherlands). Containers weighing more than 45 kg are transported as cargo* to / from the Dominican Republic

 Service animals accompanying persons with disabilities and emotional support dogs can travel in the cabin for free, this service requires prior notification and consent of the airline.more info  

TAP Air Portugal carriage of special baggage: sports equipment, firearms and ammunition:

According to baggage rules of TAP Air Portugal, sports equipment not exceeding baggage allowance (23 kg/32 kg and 158 cm) is included in the baggage allowance.

Type 1: golf equipment.

Type 2: ski (water and snow), snowboards, bicycles, kitesurfing, scuba diving equipment, fishing rods, surfboards up to 200 cm.

Type 3: longboards (over 200 cm), windsurf, hang gliders, paragliders, pole vaults, tandem bikes, other sports equipment.

Prices in €* to / from the Dominican Republic

For passengers carrying firearms and ammunition: must check in 2 hours before the usual time, a flat fee of €75 for domestic flights or flights within Europe (plus Morocco, Tunisia, flights between Accra and São Tomé) and €110 for intercontinental flights (130 to / from the Dominican Republic) will be charged; you can carry max 5 kg of ammunition.more info  

TAP Air Portugal carriage of musical instruments:

Musical instruments are included in the baggage allowance and can be carried instead of carry-on or hold baggage pieces, but in this case the carrier is not liable for their damage.

For a fee in the hold: up to 45 kg (on some routes — 32 kg: USA, Hungary, France, Netherlands) and with dimensions up to 190x75x65 cm.

When carried in the passenger's seat, the weight of the instrument must not exceed 75 kg, and its size usually must not exceed 135х50х30 cm.more info
